Functionality of ITR Idler Wheels
The function of the idler wheel is to properly tension and guide the track chain, ensuring its proper winding. The idler wheel and tensioner work together to maintain a specified degree of track tension. Efficient chain tension is a key factor influencing undercarriage durability. The optimal deflection for conventional tracks is approximately 50mm (+-5mm). For example, a track on an 80-horsepower machine with a deflection of 12mm will have a tension of 2540 kg at the time of measurement in the track tensioner. Meanwhile, the same machine, at the suggested deflection of 50mm, will have a tension value of 362 kg. An overly tight track increases pressure, leading to greater wear on the track sleeves and drive sprocket teeth, as well as on the chain contact with the idler wheel and rollers. Appropriate tread hardness, equal to or greater than the chain links and running and supporting rollers, ensures impact resistance and balanced durability. Material: SCMn3A, hardening 50-55 HRC. Continuous lubrication ensures maintenance minimization throughout the service life.
